Coral works with individuals and couples and specializes in Healthy Relationships

Using traditional Imago Therapy, Coral teaches couples how to resolve problems by using a specific line of dialogue that reduces stress, anxiety, and aggression. Often negativity becomes such a large part of communication between couples that they it feels normal. But negativity is toxic to relationships! Anything you say or do, or your partner says or does, that is experienced as a put-down is considered negativity. It could be a joke, or a criticism, guilt trip, or an outright attack. The problem is that after repeatedly getting hurt, people tend to just give up or leave. And this does not bring the closeness and connection we yearn for.

By teaching clients how to eliminate negativity from their relationships, Coral works with clients to reduce reactivity so that they can really hear and validate what their partners need to say. Negativity can erode the feeling of safety in a partnership, and when people don’t feel safe, their brains can’t problem solve, so they can’t find solutions to arguments. It doesn’t mean that we eliminate all frustrations; it means that we find better ways to express those frustrations.

Many people see relationships as two things – our partners and us. Coral believes that there is a third entity in all relationships – the space between – where the relationship resides. Once we realize that our partners are separate from us, and they are more than the image we have of them, we can move to a place of curiosity, where we stop talking and stop judging, and become a safe person to confide in.

After all, isn’t that what we all yearn for? To be more connected with our partners?

Coral welcomes clients from all backgrounds and genders, and offers a safe, scent free, and non-judgemental environment. She has been practicing for ten years, is a member of good standing of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, and has a Master of Arts in Clinical Counselling.

You are welcome to book an appointment or call for Coral’s free 15 minute consultation.
